“Whiskey River,” originally recorded in 1973 for Willie Nelson album “Shotgun Willie,” kicked off the performance. Chris Stapleton joined Nelson on stage, both seated side by side, creating an unforgettable acoustic rendition. Stapleton’s collaboration brought a fresh dynamic to the timeless track, showcasing the enduring appeal of Nelson’s music.

Sheryl Crow then joined Willie Nelson for a heartfelt performance of “Crazy,” a song Nelson wrote in 1961. Originally made famous by Patsy Cline, the rendition marked a poignant moment, with Crow elegantly singing alongside Nelson. Projected on the screen behind them was a snapshot of Nelson from the 1960s, highlighting his evolution from a clean-cut appearance to his now-iconic braids and red bandana.

The grand finale featured Dave Matthews joining the ensemble for “On the Road Again,” Nelson’s most recognizable anthem. Matthews had the distinct honor of formally inducting Nelson into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, presenting him with a trophy. Following the performance, Nelson expressed gratitude in his speech, acknowledging his family band, longtime manager, record label, and his wife Annie.

Reflecting on his musical journey, Nelson paid tribute to legendary collaborators such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Booker T. Jones, Leon Russell, and Ray Charles. He emphasized the organic nature of their collaborations, stating, “When Ray and I got together, we never asked each other what to do or whether to do a soul song or a rock song or a country song. We just sang the songs we loved.”
