Elijah is entitled to regular trust payouts established by his late father, the renowned musician Gregg Allman. Cher, fearing that the funds might be used for substance abuse rather than essential living expenses, is seeking control over his access to the money.

In the legal filings, the 77-year-old singer contends that, as Elijah’s mother, she is best suited to act as conservator. She highlights two of Elijah’s siblings who have nominated her for the role, emphasizing her unique position as a parent. Additionally, Cher takes aim at Elijah’s estranged wife, Marieangela King, accusing her of obstructing Elijah’s efforts to seek necessary mental health and substance abuse assistance.

This move is a response to the ongoing family drama, with Marieangela previously accusing Cher of kidnapping Elijah to compel him into rehab, a charge that  vehemently denies.

The conservatorship request underscores Cher’s deep concerns about Elijah’s well-being, citing the urgency of ensuring that financial resources are allocated responsibly and not diverted toward destructive habits. As legal proceedings unfold, the case sheds light on the challenges faced by families dealing with issues related to mental health and substance abuse.
