“Reflections on Coachella Weekend 1: Hits, Misses, and Areas for Improvement”
April 20, 2024Last Updated: April 20, 2024
The first weekend of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival brought many memorable moments, from the nostalgic No Doubt reunion to Kesha’s remix of “TiK ToK.” However, there were some shortcomings that need addressing. Here are some areas for improvement for organizers, artists, and attendees:
Coachella
- Technical glitches during Coachella performances need to be minimized. Sound issues plagued Lana Del Rey’s set, and other artists like The Japanese Houses and Bebe Rexha faced similar problems. Grimes even had equipment malfunctions, prompting her to promise better organization for Weekend 2.
- Coachella Crowd energy needs a boost. While it’s natural to tire over the festival days, artists like Damon Albarn of Blur faced lackluster responses from the audience. Let’s show more enthusiasm and engagement during performances.
- Schedule conflicts between major sets should be reduced. Weekend 1 saw several overlapping performances, causing frustration for fans torn between choices. Adjustments to set times for Weekend 2 are hoped for.
- Keep up the surprises. Weekend 1 saw incredible surprise guest appearances from Shakira, Kesha, and others. Let’s maintain this excitement in Weekend 2 with more unexpected collaborations and performances.
- Less emphasis on influencers. While they add to the festival atmosphere, an oversaturation of influencers can detract from the genuine music experience. Let’s aim for a more authentic and fan-focused environment in Weekend 2.
