Although OpenAI initially introduced the capability to prompt ChatGPT with voice and images in September, it was initially limited to paying users. The decision to make this feature freely available to all users coincides with internal challenges at OpenAI, marked by the abrupt removal of their CEO and ongoing negotiations for his potential return. In a demonstration provided in the post, someone inquires of ChatGPT, “It’s been a long night for the team, and we’re hungry. How many 16-inch pizzas should I order for 778 people?” Interestingly, OpenAI has a similar number of employees, the majority of whom recently expressed their intent to resign unless the entire board steps down.
Last week, OpenAI’s board terminated co-founder and CEO Sam Altman, citing concerns that “he was not consistently candid in his communications with the board.” Since then, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has extended an invitation to Altman and his team to establish a new division within the tech giant. However, Altman is considering a return to OpenAI.
Former ChatGPT’s OpenAI president Greg Brockman, who resigned following Altman’s removal, shared OpenAI’s announcement on X, encouraging users to “Give it a try — totally changes the ChatGPT experience.” According to reports from The Verge, Brockman is also open to the possibility of returning to OpenAI.
