Steve Kerr revealed that he and Spoelstra exchanged texts on draft night expressing their admiration for each other’s picks. He acknowledged the success of both rookies, highlighting the excellent choices made by their front offices.

Brandin Podziemski and Jaime Jaquez Jr., initially seen as highly skilled prospects, have exceeded expectations in their debut season. Despite not having guaranteed rotation spots at the start of the 2023-24 season, they have become essential contributors and secured spots in their teams’ starting lineups. Both players are now strong candidates for the First Team All-Rookie honors.

Miami selected Jaquez with the 18th pick, while Golden State picked up Podziemski just one selection later. Two months into the regular season, they have not only established themselves as nightly contributors but have also become key players for their teams.

Podziemski, averaging 8.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, three assists, and one steal per game, has showcased his versatility, shooting 40.5% from three-point range. Jaquez, with even more impressive stats, contributes 13.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game with a solid 60.7% true shooting.

Steve Kerr  emphasized that Podziemski is a steal for the Warriors, projecting him as a long-term fixture. Meanwhile, Jaquez’s impact on the Heat has been monumental, with no signs of slowing down, especially after his historic performance in the Heat’s shorthanded win on Christmas.

Both rookies have proven to be key assets for their respective teams, showcasing their skills and making a significant impact in their debut NBA season.
