Mimimi has kept the identity of these pirates under wraps until now. However, having explored both DLCs extensively over the past week, it’s safe to say that this is the fitting swansong that Shadow Gambit deserves. One of the expansions, in particular, provides a poignant touch, completing Mimimi’s journey as a studio. Be warned, spoilers abound, but if you’re ready for it, let’s delve into the details.

Mimimi Games

Starting with the less spoiler-filled expansion, Zagan’s Ritual features a renegade Prognisticar named Zagan, who has turned against the villainous Inquisition. He sees your magical ship, The Red Marley, as a valuable ally in his quest for ultimate knowledge. Zagan’s unique abilities include draining his health for enhanced combat prowess and manipulating enemy guards through religious fervor. His approach differs from the typical strategy of eliminating foes, making him a formidable ally.

The second expansion, Yuki’s Wish, brings back Shadow Tactics’ child assassin, Yuki, accompanied by the adorable pirate tanuki, Kuma. Yuki excels in setting traps and luring enemies to their demise using Kuma’s cuteness. Her moveset includes a tripwire trap that triggers a deadly storm of blades and needles. The expansion adds a layer of brutality to Yuki’s arsenal, making her a potent companion in the game.

Without delving into story spoilers, both expansions offer fantastic and enjoyable content, reminiscent of what made The Cursed Crew captivating. The characters are rich in personality, and their unique skills add excitement to the game. While the mission select table may seem crowded with new additions, the abundance of great characters showcases Mimimi Games excellent writing and design.

Both expansions revisit existing island locations while introducing new and enjoyable areas. Zagan’s Ritual takes players to a besieged Dracula lair, while Yuki’s Wish involves solving challenges on a Japanese-inspired island called Dragon’s Dream. Yuki’s Wish exudes a more adventurous vibe, but Zagan’s Ritual provides a deeper dive into Shadow Gambit’s lore.

For fans of Mimimi Games previous games, whether from the early days of Shadow Tactics, the later release of Desperados 3, or those new to Shadow Gambit, relish every moment of this game. It’s uncertain whether we’ll see a similar game again, especially from this particular team. Both expansions, crafted with care and attention, breathe new life into this stealth strategy epic, offering a generous extension to the cursed archipelago. Returning to this world is a delight, and savoring every moment is a fitting farewell to Mimimi Games extraordinary work.
